Fireflies and frogs

Kansas is a great place for hunting fireflies. We got to look for them for the first time. They're pretty amazing. Their little bottoms light up . . .


. . . except when you catch them in a jar. They don't seem to feel like lighting up when they're in that situation. When you think about it, however, we wouldn't really feel like lighting up if we were trapped in a jar.


They do light up if you catch them in your hand though. Kinsey and Grandma caught a few and put them in Charley's hands. It was pretty amazing.


We stayed out there for a long time. Eventually we caught on that wanted to light up in the jar.


No, that is not a firefly. we found a frog too. Again, Charley let Grandma put the frog in his hand.
